Campervans, Scenery and business success!

Four Seasons Campers, Scotland’s premier independent VW California rental company, is nestled in the scenic area of Balloch, gateway to Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park. They offer services to those looking to explore the picturesque landscapes of Scotland and the UK.

Established by Liz Mackenzie in April 2015, Four Seasons Campers started with one large motorhome and was solely directed and operated by Liz. Recognizing its potential, she expanded the company and doubled its capacity year on year by initially renting VW conversion campervans. The business has grown significantly under Liz’s guidance since then through investment in 2018 to purchase VW’s own iconic California campervans and increase her fleet and create a part-time valet job.

With an increasing demand over the last seven years, the company now boasts a fleet of 18 campervans and employs six full-time staff members, earning a Silver Award from Investors in People. They are now diversifying into new areas and will be offering self-guided tours, corporate accommodation, corporate team building days in the campervans, and bespoke hospitality services. They specialize in creating unique tour routes that showcase Scotland’s hidden spots and lesser-known destinations.

The transition to the VW California Ocean campervan range has marked a significant upgrade, ensuring high levels of service and customer satisfaction. In the last two years, Four Seasons Campers has focused on refining their internal processes and enhancing staff training to improve sales, rental services, and overall customer experience, aiming for sustainable growth.

The company’s journey from its humble beginnings to becoming a renowned name in the Scottish tourism sector is a testament to their dedication and hard work. Liz Mackenzie, reflecting on the company's growth, attributes significant progress to strategic decisions and efforts to improve service quality and customer experience. She emphasizes the importance of continuous improvement and adaptation to meet the evolving needs of their clientele.

As an exemplar of Scottish entrepreneurial success, Four Seasons Campers continues to thrive, contributing to the local economy and offering unique travel experiences across Scotland.

Led by a consortium of Scotland's local authorities, BLS can offer loans from £25,000 up to £250,000 to new and established businesses throughout Scotland. By giving businesses access to an invaluable new source of funding, these loans may be used flexibly for several purposes, including but not limited to, working capital, the purchase of plant or equipment, investing in business property and expanding into new markets.

Fully funded by the Scottish Government, BLS aims to give businesses access to funding that will support their growth and expansion plans. Whilst securing finance can be a major hurdle, particularly for small and medium sized businesses, this Fund will give businesses the opportunity to secure the finance required to realise their ambitions.

Speaking of the success of the company since their initial loan was issued, Director & Owner of Four Seasons, Liz Mackenzie said:

“If it wasn’t for our loan from Business Loan Scotland, I could never have grown the business to what it is today. BLS were instrumental in helping me to grow the business initially and enable me to consequently scale up. BLS continued to support us in the pandemic by giving us a payment holiday (without us even asking) showing they understood the tourism industry we are in and the effect the pandemic had on it. I would thoroughly recommend working with them to support your business growth.”

Fund Manager for Business Loans Scotland, Andrew Dickson added:

“Four Season Campers is an excellent example of how a business can grow and flourish with the right type of support and investment. Business Loans Scotland is here to support businesses like Four Season Campers and if you wish to travel and see the sights of Scotland, traveling around the country in a VW campervan would be difficult to beat. I am delighted BLS was able to be part of the journey so far and wish Liz and her team continued success for the future.”
